![]() | Libya 2 Piastre King Idris I KM-5 BU (1) Digga |
offer US $3.00
Condition: Uncirculated Region : North Africa Material : Copper - Nickel Country : Libya Type : KM-5 Year : 1952 Libyan coins are not terribly common - probably due to the fact that they have not minted circulation coinage in a generation. This coin dates back to before the era of Moammar Quadaffi, the pizza-faced poster-boy for terrorism in the '80s. This coin was minted in 1952, as was I. It shows the image of Idris I, King of Libya. In fact, Idris was a noted tribal chieftain promoted by the British to King. The Brits made Kings all over the Middle-Eastern landscape, most of whom came to grief and whose surviving get are no longer Kings - Abdullah of Jordan being a notable exception. I was fortunate to acquire a supply of these beauties, which I offer here for your delectati -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description Diameter (mm) Composition KM Condition Date Mint Mark 2 Piastres King Idris I 25 Copper-Nickel KM-5 BU 1952 N/A
